When we were on our walk yesterday, Doggie went on guard, saying the coyote were running the hills here. He took me home right after that. They have been a problem for a while, and the bitches are in heat now. They have denned up somewhere close, a bit closer than I like. They say if you hunt them, they just repopulate faster, and they do have a job to do in the woods so they can be beneficial. Almost a love hate relationship between them and myself. I have seen them quite a few times and the male is huge! Our coyote are a cross of coyote and wolf and they call them eastern coyote. The male here looks to be about 50 pounds, half my body weight and larger than my dog. They came to Vermont about 1940 and the population has grown since then. Coyote eat rodents, plants, fruit, deer, snowshoe hare, cottontail rabbits, woodchucks, insects, and birds. They eat deer helping to cull the weak from the deer yards in Winter, and eat carcass they find of animals. I am glad they are there to do the job! We are over run with red squirrels at this time the pine cone crop this year was huge. I hope they take care of some of those! They tried to steal my cones off the porch I gathered for the seed to eat and plant...

The wind blows here a lot all year. I got this fantastic photo of snow blowing in the field yesterday too! Sometimes it is hard to judge just how much clothing I need out there. You can walk around a corner here and the wind will just about blow you away as it comes through the gap and hits the fields below. I love watching that snow blow!
